About Us
Copeton Dam supplies town water for Inverell, Gilgai, Tingha and Delungra as well as irrigation water for cotton, cereal crops and peacan nuts farms below and west of the dam.
The constuction of the dam started in March 1968 and was completed and opened on the 23rd October 1976. At the height of development there were 645 personal employed with a total cost being $45 million. When full at 100% Copeton Dam holds 1,361,600 megalitres of water and covers 4620 hectares of land with 9 flood gates to control water flow and releases.
Copeton Dam is maintained by NSW State Water Corporation.
Management
Copeton Waters State Park is under the jurisdiction of the Department of Lands and all monies received by Copeton Waters State Park are retained by us to be used to improve park facilities and benefits all visitors.
A board of local trustees (volunteers) take care of the directional path for the state park whilst day to day running of the park is under the control of the park manager and staff.
